Salem Montessori School's Early Learning Class (ELC) is designed for children from 18 months to 3 years. The teachers foster a warm, nurturing, loving environment and work toward easing the transition between home and "school".

Our focus in the Early Learning Class is to provide your child opportunities for independence, a sense of order, cooperative social interaction, language and motor skills. The children learn the respect for each others' work, appropriate words and actions to express emotions, and the concept of peer teaching, as the other children help the younger learn the daily routine and activities. In addition we work cooperatively with the child and family in teaching toilet training skills.

The goal of the program is to not only prepare your child for the primary classroom, but more importantly to provide a prepared environment that will meet the physical, cognitive, and social needs of each child. It is through this environment that the child's natural progressive aptitude for acquiring knowledge about the world can be expressed and where each child as an individual, can satisfy their interests and can not only learn and grow, but thrive.
